Trelowarren
Estates and their owners come and go, but Trelowarren can point to 1,000 years of recorded history, 600 of them in the Vyvyan family who own it today. It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with over one thousand acres of woodland and countryside to wander through and is probably one of Cornwall’s most historic estates.
The Chapel
It is being carefully restored to balance conservation, private ownership and living history unlike the corporate heritage of so many stately homes. It has a fabulous history waiting to be explored, Iron Age Forts, a Fogou and woodland walks down to the Helford River. Why not bring a picnic, or visit our restaurant, and set off to walk to Tremayne Quay on the Helford River, built for Queen Victoria’s visit in 1847. Come and visit for the day or why not arrange to stay in one of our state of the art environmental and ecological self-catering cottages and make Trelowarren your holiday home.
“An all round experience in a beautiful and unspoilt estate.”

Large parts of Trelowarren are designed as an 18th century picturesque landscape. There are Pleasure Grounds, a Mount, ha-ha’s, avenues and terraces to explore. The Pleasure Grounds, contemporary to those described by Jane Austen in ‘Northanger Abbey’ and ‘Mansfield Park’, are being replanted to the 1750 plan of Dionysus Williams. The estate has a specialist nursery offering a wide selection of plants including Fritillarias, Eremurus, Alliums, Lilies and a wide range of herbaceous perennials and culinary herbs. |
