Welcome to South West Cornwall

Cornwall has more coast than any other county in England and here in the South West you can see the sea on both sides as you approach Land’s End. The coast is rugged and wild with jagged cliffs and wide estuaries. A veritable walker’s paradise, the South West Coastal Path runs along the cliff tops for 130 miles, down through coastal valleys and rocky coves, down onto secret beaches and up to gorse covered cliff tops. Inland there are a number of longer, themed walks and the The Cornish Cycle way, running down to Land’s End from Truro will take you up through exhillarating moorland.

For riders, there are miles of bridalways and plenty of trekking centres to suit all skill levels,  seeing the  country in a whole new way from the back of a horse!

For golfers, pit your skills against amazing courses in truly breathtaking surroundings. Hit a ball too far and it’s straight in the ocean!

Every Spring and Summer, the South West of Cornwall is often where you will first see basking sharks, whales and dolphins as they head into our waters. Dedicated volunteers monitor these amazing creatures and there are many trips available to possibly catch a glimpse. If the conditions are right, take yourself out by kayak and you just might get lucky. As big as a bus, basking sharks are truly amazing.

The area boasts some fine surf beaches, Gwithian and Gwenver being the most famous, so if the Atlantic swell is heading in, get a board and a wet suit and paddle out.

After all that fresh air and exertion, treat yourself. South West Cornwall has long sandy beaches to while away a hot afternoon, whilst in the evening there are plenty of great bars and restaurants to enjoy, somewhere to reward yourself and plan the next days activities.

At Land’s End, you are as far west as you can get on the mainland and a short trip to the Lizard and you are as far south as you can get. If you can, try a trip out to the Scillies, even for a day trip. The islands lie in deep water and the weather is very different to the mainland. Crystal clear water, white sand beaches and abundant wildlife makes you think you have left the UK altogether.
