No mention of Marazion or Mount’s Bay can be complete without St Michael’s Mount. Owned and inhabited by the St Aubyn family since 1659, its history and mythology go way back, known as “the grey rock in the wood” in Cornish, which seems strange until at very low tide, the remains of ancient trees can be seen.

The bay, stretching from Lizard Point to Land’s End has been aptly described as the most beautifl bay in the world. The first safe haven for sailors coming in from the Atlantic, on a fine day it must be a truly welcome sight.

The idyllic views over the bay can be best appreciated from a bicycle and the First and Last Trail emerges into the ancient landscape of West Penwith, taking in picturesque villages en-route. With continous views across Mount’s Bay, the route provides a level, mainly traffic free link between Penzance and Marazion. Rated as a moderate cycle, it is part of the Cornish Way cycle network and detailed maps and route information are available.
